Pastry of the week: chocaron from Sadaharu Aoki

It’s been winter too long. Many pastries were consumed, some of note, and others less so. But spring has come, and the days of little treats to be enjoyed on park benches in the afternoon sun have come with it. On a busy day full of errands, I wandered through Galeries Lafayette Gourmet in search of Bordier butter–I wanted a friend to try the piment d’espelette, you see. The Sadaharu Aoki stand caught my eye, as it always does. I didn’t want something big, or too sweet, or overwhelming–when this little guy called out to me.

“I’m like a macaron, but even better!”, he said. “I’m covered in chocolate. I’m a chocaron!”.

Fine, fine. I succumbed. And he was worth every small, reasonable, chocolate covered bite.
